Portable Document Format (PDF) is an open standard for document exchange. The file format created by Adobe Systems is used for representing documents independent of application software, hardware, and operating system. Because of this broad compatibility and the fact that Adobe Reader and other PDF readers are free, PDF is a good format for sending and sharing files. There are many applications which can create and work with PDF files, including Docs, Pages, and Word.
