Connecting to the Campus Wireless Network for Early MAC OS Versions

Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) & 10.4 (Tiger)

  1. To configure your computer’s wireless network setting, first make sure AirPort is turned on. There should be an airport icon on the menu bar at the top right of your screen. Click it and select Open Internet Connect….
  2. Click 802.1X in the toolbar. (Note: If then do not see the toolbar, click on the white/blue capsule-shaped button in the top-right corner of the window. If you do not see an 802.1X icon, click File at the top of the screen, then click New 802.1x Connection…. The “802.1x Connection Window” will appear.)
  3. Under the “Configuration” drop-down menu, click Edit Configurations….
  4. Click the + (plus) button in the lower-left corner, then make these settings:
    • Description BishopNet
    • Network Port AirPort
    • User Name [Type in your OWU username]
    • Password [Type in your OWU password]
    • Wireless Network BishopNet
    • Authentication Click the PEAP checkbox
  5. Click OK, and then click Connect. You should be successfully connected to BishopNet. Yet there is still one more step. (Note: If a certificate notification box does not pop up, you may need to turn AirPort off and then turn it back on.)
  6. You should be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. The certificate will be issued by Ohio Wesleyan University and Thawte. Be sure to click Show Certificate and then click the Always trust these certificates checkbox. Click Continue.
  7. Surf over to http://wifi.owu.edu/ to finish your registration. You will be asked for your OWU username and password one more time. Make sure the first letter in your username is not capitalized. Once you complete and Submit this, you should be online with BishopNet in about 5 minutes.

Mac OS X Leopard (10.5)

  1. To configure your computer’s wireless network setting, first make sure AirPort is turned on. Check the icon at the top right near the clock. Next, click the Apple menu (upper-left corner of the desktop), then click System Preferences.
  2. Click the Network icon (in the third row). Next, if necessary, click the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the box (unlocking it with your Mac password) to make changes.
  3. Click AirPort on the left, and click the Advanced… button at the lower right.
  4. Click the 802.1X tab.
  5. Click the + (plus) button in the lower-left corner, and select Add User Profile. Type in “BishopNet” (without the quotes) for the name of the new configuration.
  6. On the right side of the box, make these settings:
    • User Name [Type in your OWU username]
    • Password [Type in your OWU password]
    • Wireless Network BishopNet
    • Authentication Click the PEAP checkbox but nothing else — no other checked boxes
  7. Click OK, then click Apply.
  8. You should be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. The certificate will be issued by Ohio Wesleyan University and Thawte. Be sure to click Show Certificate and then click the Always trust these certificates checkbox. Next, click Continue. (Note: If a certificate notification box does not pop up, you may need to turn off AirPort then turn it back on.)
  9. Open safari and go to http://wifi.owu.edu/ to finish your registration. You will be asked for your OWU username and password one more time. Make sure the first letter in your username is not capitalized. Once you complete and Submit this, you should be online with BishopNet in about 5 minutes.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6)

  1. To configure your computer’s wireless network setting, first make sure AirPort is turned on. Check the icon at the top right near the clock. Next, click the Apple menu (upper-left corner of the desktop), then click System Preferences.
  2. Click the Network icon (in the third row). Next, if necessary, click the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the box (unlocking it with your Mac password) to make changes.
  3. Click AirPort on the left, and click the Advanced… button at the lower right.
  4. Click the 802.1X tab.
  5. Click the + (plus) button in the lower-left corner, and select Add User Profile. Type in “BishopNet” (without the quotes) for the name of the new configuration.
  6. On the right side of the box, make these settings:
    • User Name [Type in your OWU username]
    • Password [Type in your OWU password]
    • Authentication PEAP should be the only protocol checked
    • Wireless Network Select BishopNet from the list
    • Security Type WPA2 Enterprise
  7. Click OK, then click Apply.
  8. Click the Connect button next to 802.1X: BishopNet
  9. You should be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. The certificate will be issued by Ohio Wesleyan University and Thawte. Click Show Certificate and make sure Always trust these certificates is checked.
  10. Open safari and go to http://wifi.owu.edu/ to finish your registration. You will be asked for your OWU username and password one more time. Make sure the first letter in your username is not capitalized. Once you complete and Submit this, you should be online with BishopNet in about 5 minutes.
