Telephone Features

For your protection, the Telecommunications Department is able to detect and investigate fraudulent calls. If you are receiving obscene or harassing telephone calls, notify the Telecommunications Department (students, notify your RLC).

Section 2917.21 of the Penal Code of the State of Ohio makes it unlawful for any person to (1) fail to identify themselves to the recipient and make the telephone call with purpose to harass, abuse, or annoy any person, (2) describe, suggest, request, or propose any sexual activity, or (3) knowingly state to the recipient of the telephone call that he intends to cause damage to or destroy public or private property.

Violators of this law are guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree. If the offender has previously been convicted of a violation of this section, he is guilty of a felony of the fourth degree.


Telephone Instructions

Telephone Instructions for Students, Faculty and Administration, and Staff:

To Place an Internal Call

1. Lift handset or press [Speaker].
2. Dial the 4-digit extension.

1. Lift handset or press  [Speaker].
2. Dial 2000.

To Place a Local or 800 Call

1. Lift handset or press  [Speaker].
2. Dial “9” for an outside line then dial the telephone number.

To Place a Long Distance Call

1. Lift handset or press  [Speaker].
2. Dial “8” for an outside line then dial the telephone number, wait for confirmation tone.
3. Dial 8-digit authorization code.

To Place an International Call

1. Lift handset or press  [Speaker].
2. Dial “8” for an outside line, dial 011 – country code, city code, telephone number, wait for confirmation tone.
3. Dial 8-digit authorization code.

To Report a Fire or Other Emergency

1. Lift handset or press  [Speaker].
2. Dial 2222 and wait for an answer.
3. Report the details to the individual who answers.

To Call a Campus Number from Off-Campus

1. Dial (740) 368 for 2000 & 3000 numbers.
2. Dial (740) 203 for 4000, 5000, & 6000 numbers.

Telephone Features

Activating/Deactivating the Microphone

1. Press [Mic].
This will toggle the microphone on and off. When activated, the MIC LED will light red.

Placing a Call on Hold

With call in progress:
1. Press the [Hold] key. Line key will flash green.
2. To retrieve, press the line key on which the call was being held. Call can be retrieved from any station with that line appearance.
*Call will ring back to phone if not retrieved.

Placing a Call on Exclusive Hold

With call in progress:
1. Press the [Hold] key TWICE. Line key will flash green.
2. To retrieve, press the line key on which the call was being held. Call can ONLY be retrieved from the station that placed the call on hold. Line will NOT blink on other phones on which the line appears.
*Call will ring back to phone if not retrieved.

Transferring a Call to a Station

With call in progress:
1. Press [Transfer] .
2. Dial the extension. To screen the call, wait for called party to answer.
3. Hang up to complete the transfer. To return to the original call, press the [Transfer] key again.

Placing a Three-Party Conference Call

With first call established:
1. Press [Transfer].
2. Place the second call (internal or external).
3. When party answers, press [Conf] to connect all parties.

Setting Call Forward - All Calls
  1. Press [Speaker] or lift handset for dial tone.
  2. Press the FDA SOFT KEY, OR from a non-display phone, Dial #9.
  3. Enter the destination extension number. If forwarding to voice mail, enter #9 3976.
  4. Wait for “Set” confirmation tone, then hang up.

Cancelling Call Forward - All Calls

1. Press [speaker].
2. Press the FDA SOFT KEY or Dial ##9.
3. Hear Confirmation tone and hang up.

Setting Call Forward - Busy

1. Press [Speaker]or lift handset for dial tone.
2. Press soft key below FDB or D-Terms, single lines dial #7. If forwarding to voice mail, enter #7 3978.
3. Wait for “Set” confirmation tone, then hang up.

Cancelling Call Forward - Busy

1. Press [Speaker] or lift handset for dial tone.
2. Press soft key below FDB, single lines dial ##7.
3. Hear confirmation tone and hang up.

Setting Call Forward - No Answer

1. Press [Speaker] or lift handset for dial tone.
2. Press soft key below FNA, single lines dial #8.
3. Enter the destination extension number. If forwarding to voice mail, enter #8 3978.
4. Wait for “Set” confirmation tone and hang up.

Cancelling Call Forward - No Answer

1. Press [Speaker] or lift handset for dial tone.
2. Press soft key below FNA, single lines dial ##8.
3. Hear confirmation tone and hang up.

Activating Last Number Redial

1. Press [Redial] and enter *. On display phones, this key will scroll through the last five numbers dialed. Each time this key is pressed, a new number will be displayed.
2. When desired number appears in the display, press * to dial.

Programming One-Touch Speed Dial Keys

With handset down:
1. Press [Feature].
2. Press the key you wish to program.
3. Enter the extension number or 9 + the telephone number that you wish to store.
4. Press [Feature] to lock in the programming.
Note: On display phones the MESSAGE key can also be programmed as a One Touch Speed Dial key, usually to Voice Mail, Extension 3976.

Activate Save & Repeat

With handset down:
1. Press [Feature].
2. Press the key you wish to program.
3. Enter the extension number or 9 + the telephone number that you wish to store.
4. Press [Feature] to lock in the programming.
Note: On display phones the MESSAGE key can also be programmed as a One Touch Speed Dial key, usually to Voice Mail, Extension 3976.

Parking a Call

With call in progress:
1. Press Transfer and enter *6.
2. Hang up.
*If call is not retrieved within 2 minutes, the caller will ring back to the phone.

To Retrieve a Parked Call From a Remote Extension

1. Lift the handset, or press [Speaker].
2. Dial *61.
3. Dial Ext. Number the call was parked on.
4. You will be connected to the call.

1. Lift the handset, or press[Speaker] .

Call Pickup (Group)

While a phone in your pre-established pick-up group is ringing:
1. Lift the handset, or press [Speaker].
2. Press PICK Soft Key or Dial *3.
3. Ringing line will be answered.
From a Non-Display Phone:
Lift the handset and dial *3.

Call Pickup (Direct):
While any phone is ringing:
1. Lift the handset, or press [Speaker]for dial tone.
2. Dial *3, plus the ringing phone ext. number.
3. Ringing line will be answered.

To Change Ringer Tone
  1. Press [Feature]
  2. Press 3
  3. Continue to press 3 to scroll through the different tones
  4. Press [Feature] when you hear the tone you want to use.

Lamp Indicators
  • Green Lamp – Line is being used by you
  • Red Lamp – Line is being used by someone else
  • Flashing Green Lamp – Call has been placed on hold on Your phone
  • Flashing Red Lamp – Call has been placed on hold at another phone
