Because of new information obtained this afternoon it will also be necessary to shut down the OWU wireless network on East Campus at some point between 8 and 9 am tomorrow (Wednesday March 10, 2010) for software maintenance.

OWU's wireless network will go down on the West Campus for a brief period between 8 and 9 am on Wednesday, March 10 2010 for software license installation.
Malware Trojan "SecurityTools, System Security" ~~(10/18/2010)~~(1/18/2010)
There has been numerous infections of the a malware program named "Security Tools, System Security" on University and student machines. Security Tools is a fake malware remover with an impressively generic name.. It is often loaded when the user visits a web site that may cause a pop up to appear informing you that you have a virus and you should run a free scan. Running the scan loads a Trojan on your machine. Once inside and active, Security Tools floods the user with popups and fake system notifications, claiming the system is infected and in need of an anti-spyware program. It may eventually render your computer useless. All of these popups lead to the purchase page of Security Tool. Much like any other rogue, Security Tool will also perform fake system scans, which mark legitimate files as threats. To remove these “threats” you supposedly have to purchase the full version of Security Tool, which is just as fake as the trial. If you receive any popups offering a free virus scan please DO NOT initiate a scan.

If you have Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X installed and you plan to update your Mac OS X operating system from version 10.5 to version 10.6, you must do one of the following:

If you haven't already, try using the BishopNet automatic configuration utility:

If a balloon appears in the Windows system tray (at the bottom of the screen) saying “Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network BishopNet,” click the balloon, and in the “Enter Credentials” box, type in your OWU username and password, leaving Logon domain blank. Then click OK.

If you are unable to use the BishopNet automatic configuration utility, please follow these manual connection directions -- after you have reset your OWU password, if necessary. Go back and see if you need to reset your OWU password.
To configure your computer's wireless network setting, first make sure your wireless card is turned on and enabled. Next, right-click the "Network" icon in the system tray (the computer-and-globe icon in the lower-right corner of the desktop). Then click Connect to a network.

The "Connect to a network" box will appear again. Click Enter/select additional log on information once more, and a "Validate Server Certificate" box will appear. Click OK.
You should be successfully connected to BishopNet. Be sure to click both the Save this network and Start this connection automatically checkboxes. Then click Close.
Surf over to http://wifi.owu.edu/ to finish your registration. You will be asked for your OWU username and password one more time. Once you complete and Submit this, you should be online with BishopNet.

If Vista was unable to find BishopNet or automatically configure itself with BishopNet's settings in the previous steps, follow these instructions to fully configure your connection:
Click the Start Menu and then Control Panel
In Control Panel select View network status and tasks (under "Network and Internet") which will bring up the Network and Sharing Center.
From the Tasks pane, select Manage Wireless Networks.
If BishopNet already appears in the list, double-click its list entry to configure it and skip to step 8. Otherwise, click the add button to create a new entry.
From the "Manually connect to a wireless network" window, select the Manually create a network profile option.
Enter these settings in the next box:
Network name: BishopNet
Security type: WPA-Enterprise
Encryption type: TKIP
Check "Start this connection automatically"
Uncheck "Connect even if this network is not broadcasting"
After filling in the required information, click Next. You should see the "Successfully Added" dialog. Now click the Change connection settings option.
Click the security tab on the "Wireless Network Properties" window that pops up.
Make sure the authentication method is set to "Protectead EAP (PEAP)" and then click settings.
In the "Protected EAP Properties" window that pops up make these changes:
Validate server certificate: [Click to make it checked]
Connect to these servers: [Click to make it checked]
Text box: arubacorns.owu.edu;arubacwsc.owu.edu
Select Authentication Method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
Trusted Root Certification Authorities: Thawte Server CA
Click the Configure button beside "Select Authentication Method" and uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon... then click OK. Next, click OK in the "Protected EAP Properties" box, then click OK in the "Wireless network properties" box.

SysReqSystem Requirements
The system requirements for running Windows 7 vary slightly depending on whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit system:
CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, whether 32-bit or 64-bit
Random access memory (RAM, or system memory): 1 gigabyte (GB) for a 32-bit system, 2 GB for a 64-bit system
Hard disk space (storage): 16 GB for a 32-bit version, 20 GB for a 64-bit version
Graphics (display device): DirectX 9 with Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 1.0 or higher driver

Go to System Preferences
Click the "Print & Fax" icon in the Hardware section
Make sure the lock in the bottom left corner is open so changes can be made
Click the "+" button in the bottom left corner of the list of printers
An "Add Printer" window will open. At the top of the window click the IP tab.
For "Protocol" select "Internet Printing Protocol - IPP"
For "Address" enter the IP address of the printer you're trying to add. If you're adding a campus printer (for faculty and staff) the IP address may be somewhere on the printer. If you can't find the IP address for an OWU printer you can contact the Help Desk for assistance.
Leave the "Queue" field blank.
The "Name" field probably automatically took the IP address you entered. Change the name to something more descriptive.
For "Location" just type something descriptive to help you remember which printer it is.
Leave "Print Using" on the value that was automatically selected when you entered the IP.

PuTTYHow to configure PuTTY (for Windows)
PuTTY is a lightweight terminal emulator and an alternative to the Kermit client for connecting to Jenzabar. It is a stand-alone executable, so it requires no installation. Here is a screen-shot for connecting to Jenzabar, although you can also save multiple connection sessions. "rs6k" is the only thing you need to enter. Be sure to accept the security the first time you connect.
