OWU Events Calendar
“Never have another ordinary day.” The OWU Events Calendar is available at owuevents.owu.edu and centralizes all campus events open to the public. Here are some tips and tricks to help you use it and integrate it with your own BishopApps Calendar.

How to add a particular event to your BishopApps Calendar

  1. Browse to the event in the Events Calendar.
  2. Right click on the .ics button and copy the link. (In Chrome the option is “Copy Link Address”, in Firefox it’s “Copy Link Location”, in Safari it’s “Copy Link”, and in Internet Explorer it’s “Copy Shortcut”.)
  3. Go to your BishopApps calendar.
  4. Click on the down arrow next to “other calendars”
  5. Select “add by URL”
  6. Paste in the URL you copied. The event will now appear on your calendar.

How to obtain a permanent link to a specific date or event

Permanent links to pages can be obtained by clicking “(link)” next to the title of the event. This appears on all event pages, as well as on the Today’s Event page. Once you click the link, you can copy the URL in the address bar of your browser. That link can then be shared with others, and will take recipients to that exact page.

How to get a map of the event location

If a map is available for an event, there will be a link in red in the Location box. Clicking on that link will bring up a map of the location. After you bring up the map by clicking the link, you can copy the URL from your browser if you wish to share the map with others.

How to subscribe to a calendar

Method 1, ICAL:
Click on “Subscribe to this calendar” at lower left, and select “.ical format”. This will download a file called “events.ics” to your computer. This file can then be imported into many different calendaring solutions. If you wish to import this into BishopApps, follow these steps to show events from the specific calendar:

  1. Log into BishopApps Calendar
  2. If you wish to create a new calendar that operates separately from your main calendar (recommended), click “Add” under My calendars, give it a name and description and click “create calendar”.
  3. Click “Settings” at the top right of your browser, and then “Calendar Settings”
  4. Click “Calendars”, and then “Import Calendar”.
  5. Click “Choose File” and browse your computer to the location of the events.ics file you downloaded, and click “Open”.
  6. In the calendar drop down box, select the calendar you just created and click “Import”.
  7. You should receive a confirmation that events were imported.
  8. As new events are posted to the calendar that you just subscribed to, they will appear on your BishopsApps calendar.
  9. See the BishopApps page for more information on how to turn on and off calendars.

Method 2, RSS:
Click on “Subscribe to this calendar” at lower left, and select RSS feed. This will give you an RSS feed that you can then add into Google Reader or other RSS feed readers. New events will continue to appear without having to visit the events page directly.
