Help with BishopNet WIFI setup and connectivity

Are you a new student or a returning student? Have you ever connected successfully before? Returning students and all faculty and staff must have changed their password since May of 2008 to gain access to the BishopNet wireless network. Passwords can be changed here.

Check all settings by walking through the setup instructions again. Deleting and re-adding the network is a good idea.

Macintosh Laptops

  • Try turning Airport off and then back on...
  • Try rebooting the computer...
  • Try turning DHCP off and then back on (this is under TCP/IP settings)...
  • Try disconnecting from BishopNet and reconnecting...

Windows XP Laptops

  • Do you have some other utility managing wireless connections? Our instructions are for Windows managing wireless connections. Configuring other wireless utilities will be different and may not work with our security.
  • Are you running Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)? If not, use an Ethernet connection to run Windows Update. See the Windows XP page for instructions.
  • Try the automatic configuration utility (for students or for faculty & staff)
  • Is there a wireless switch on the laptop that's turned off? These are usually on the side or along the front of the laptop and usually come with an indicator light.
  • Is the Wireless Network Connection enabled? Check the Network Connections window.
  • Are there hard-coded addresses in TCP/IP Properties?
