Residential networking(Wired, Ethernet connections in dorms and other residential buildings)If you bring a computer to campus or purchase one while you are studying here, we can attach it to the OWU network to access available services, including e-mail and the internet. You can connect to the BishopNet wireless network or to the campus residential network (ResNet.) To connect to ResNet you will need a Category 5 (Cat 5) patch cable with RJ45 plugs (also known as an Ethernet cable.) This cable connects your computer to the network jack in your dorm room. We recommend a 25-foot cable due to the location of these jacks. You will also need your OWU username and password to access the network, so make sure you have that information as well. Troubleshooting Connection IssuesIf you're having issues connecting to the network with an Ethernet cable there are a few things you can try to fix it.- Verify that all cables are connected securely and are in good condition. - Release / Renew the connection.
- Reboot the system. - Verify that TCP/IP properties are set to obtain IP and DNS automatically.
- Verify network adapter lights are on. - Remove/Re-install the network adapter. - Install a new/temp adapter. If registration cannot be completed using the automated process, you will need to contact the Help Desk. |
