Connecting to the Campus Wireless Network with Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) & 10.4 (Tiger)
- Please follow these manual connection directions -- only after you have reset your OWU password, if necessary. Go back and see if you need to reset your OWU password.
- To configure your computer’s wireless network setting, first make sure AirPort is turned on. Next, under the AirPort menu, click Open Internet Connect....
- Click 802.1X in the toolbar. (Note: If you do not see the toolbar, click on the white/blue capsuleshaped button in the top-right corner of the window. If you do not see an 802.1X icon, click File at the top of the screen, then click New 802.1x Connection.... The “802.1x Connection Window” will appear.)
- Under the “Configuration” drop-down menu, click Edit Configurations....
- Click the + (plus) button in the lower-left corner, then make these settings:
Description: BishopNet
Network Port: AirPort
User Name: [Type in your OWU username]
Password: [Type in your OWU password]
Wireless Network: BishopNet
Authentication: [Click the PEAP checkbox but nothing else — no other checked boxes]
- Click OK, then click Connect. You should be successfully connected to BishopNet. (Note: If a certificate notification box does not pop up, you may need to turn off AirPort then turn it back on.)
- You should be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. The certificate will be issued by Ohio Wesleyan University and Thawte. Be sure to click Show Certificate and then click the Always trust these certificates checkbox.
- Click Continue. In the future, when you are in an OWU area with BishopNet coverage, just click “BishopNet” under the AirPort menu to connect.
- If you are a student, surf over to http://wifi.owu.edu/ — or, if you are a faculty or staff member, go to http://wifi2.owu.edu/ — to finish your registration. You will be asked for your OWU username and password one more time. Once you complete and Submit this, you should be online with BishopNet.
