Connecting to the Campus Wireless Network with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
- Please follow these manual connection directions -- only after you have reset your OWU password, if necessary. Go back and see if you need to reset your OWU password.
- To configure your computer’s wireless network setting, first make sure AirPort is turned on. Next, click the Apple menu (upper-left corner of the desktop), then click System Preferences.
- Click the Network icon (in the third row). Next, if necessary, click the locked icon in the lower-left corner of the box (unlocking it with your Mac password) to make changes.
- Click AirPort on the left, and click Advanced... at the lower right. Then click the 802.1X tab.
- If you are on Mac OS X 10.5.3 or newer, skip to step #6. If you are on Mac OS X 10.5.2 or earlier, from the “Domain:” drop-down menu, click User. (Note: If the “Domain:” drop-down menu is grayed out, click Disable 802.1X Login.) Next, click the + (plus) button in the lower-left corner, and type in“BishopNet” (without the quotes) for the name of the new configuration.
- Click the + (plus) button in the lower-left corner, click Add User Profile, then type in “BishopNet” (without the quotes) for the name of the new configuration.
- On the right side of the box, make these settings:
User Name: [Type in your OWU username]
Password: [Type in your OWU password]
Wireless Network: BishopNet
Authentication: [Click the PEAP checkbox but nothing else — no other checked boxes]
- Click OK, then click Apply. You should be successfully connected to BishopNet. (Note: If a certificate notification box does not pop up, you may need to turn off AirPort then turn it back on.)
- You should be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. The certificate will be issued by Ohio Wesleyan University and Thawte. Be sure to click Show Certificate and then click the Always trust these certificates checkbox. Next, click Continue. In the future, when you are in an OWU area with BishopNet coverage, just click “BishopNet” under the AirPort menu to connect.
- If you are a student, surf over to http://wifi.owu.edu/ — or, if you are a faculty or staff member, go to http://wifi2.owu.edu/ — to finish your registration. You will be asked for your OWU username and password one more time. Once you complete and Submit this, you should be online with BishopNet.
