How to set up BishopMail using IMAP on Apple Mail 3.0 (Mac OS X Leopard)
(Scroll down if you have older versions of Mac OS and Apple Mail...)
- Click Mail | Preferences…
- On the Accounts tab, click the + button to add a new account.
- Fill in the new window with the following information:
- Full Name: [your name]
- E-mail Address: your full e-mail address (username@owu.edu)
- Password: your OWU e-mail password
- Important: please deselect the box next to ‘Automatically set up account’
- Click Create.
- Fill in the following Incoming Mail Server information:
- Account Type: Select IMAP
- Incoming Mail Server: Change this to imap.gmail.com
- User Name: your full e-mail address (username@owu.edu)
- Password: your OWU e-mail password
- Click Continue.
- Enter the following Outgoing Mail Server information:
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
- Use Authentication: selected
- User Name: your full OWU e-mail address (username@owu.edu)
- Password: your OWU e-mail password
- Click Continue.
- Review your Account Summary, and click Create.
How to set up BishopMail using IMAP on Apple Mail 2.0 (Mac OS X Tiger)
- Open Apple Mail.
- Click ‘Mail,’ and select ‘Preferences…’
- Open the ‘Accounts’ tab, and click the plus sign (+) along the bottom to add a new account.
- Select ‘IMAP’ in the ‘Account Type’ drop-down menu.
- Enter your name and OWU e-mail address (username@owu.edu) in the appropriate fields, then click ‘Continue.’
- Enter ‘imap.gmail.com’ next to ‘Incoming Mail Server’; enter your full OWU e-mail address (username@owu.edu) next to ‘User Name’; enter your OWU e-mail password; then click ‘Continue.’
- For Outgoing Mail Server, enter ‘smtp.gmail.com’; select ‘Use Authentication’; enter your full OWU e-mail address (username@owu.edu) next to ‘User Name’; and enter your OWU e-mail password. Then click ‘Continue.’
- If setup is successful, you’ll see the screen below. Then just click ‘Done.’
- Click the ‘Server Settings…’ button.
- Verify that ‘Outgoing Mail Server’ is smtp.gmail.com:username@owu.edu.
- Verify that ‘Server port’ is 587.
- Verify that ‘Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)’ is checked.
- Enter your full OWU e-mail address next to ‘User Name,’ enter your password, and click ‘OK.’
- Click ‘Advanced’ and check the box next to ‘Use SSL.’ (The port changes to ‘993.’)
How to set up the OWU Directory in Apple Mail
- Choose Mail > Preferences, and then click Composing.
- Select “Automatically complete addresses” and then click the Configure LDAP button.
- Click the Add (+) button to add an LDAP server.
- Enter OWU Directory in the Name field, and ldap.owu.edu in the Server field. In the search base field enter ou=Accounts,dc=owu,dc=edu. Leave all the other fields as they appear.
- Click Save to enable the directory, and close Mail preferences.
